ESRI - USC provides
services oriented to the natural resource
industry, primarily petroleum.
The ESRI Computer facilities support
these efforts including GIS Capabilities.
Project work can be done on a
proprietary-to-client basis.
Petroleum system
characterization and identification
involving the integration of tectonic,
structural, sedimentologic and geochemical
data is a prime activity of ESRI. By
integrating the sedimentary characterization
of reservoirs, depositional setting,
sequence stratigraphy and seismic
stratigraphy, details of petroleum systems
can be interpreted. From that models can be
constructed and predictions can be made of
accumulations of hydrocarbons.

Prioritization of
areas for exploration to match specific
corporate financial objectives is done to
help organizations select areas that are
best suited for use of their budget.
With the many areas in the world that
produce or are potential for production,
organizations must prioritize areas that
match their risk and financial mentality.
By virtue of the experienced
personnel at ESRI, programs can be planned
that aid corporations select areas that meet
their unique needs.
ESRI-USC
maintains a strong capability in
sedimentology and petrology and therefore a
strong base of expertise for core and out
crop studies.
A key component of ESRI-USC’s core
and out crop studies is lithologic
characterization using light microscropy,
Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and
X-Ray Diffraction analyses (XRD).
ESRI-USC has been involved in a
number of petrographic studies, such as the
sandstone survey of the South Caspian Basin,
sandstone survey of the Western Siberian
Basin; origins of porosity within the
Miocene Kareem Formation in the Gulf of
Suez, and origins of solution features
within Tertiary-aged carbonates within
D.O.E.’s Savannah River Site.
ESRI-USC
has created and maintains the Major Oil and
Gad Fields Database: the database includes
parameters on production, reservoirs,
reserves, field characteristics, and
accompanying maps.
