Sahadeb De joined ESRI-USC in 1999 as a Graduate Research Assistant
while pursuing Master degrees in Earth and
Environmental Resource Management and in
Computer Engineering. Apart from these, he
holds a Master degree in Geology and a Ph.D.
in Environmental Geology from the University
of Calcutta, India. He is one of the key
persons of the USDA Decision Support System
(DSS) project and is responsible for spatial
database administration, DSS application
design, development and supervision, DGI application and Web
Development.
Dr. De has more than fifteen years of experience in environmental
geoscience and GIS, and approximately eight years of experience in database systems and
high level programming.
He has also designed a new graduate level course (ENVR
700: Environmental Information Systems) on the
design and implementation of information
systems to support decision-making in
environmental management and protection,
which he taught in Fall 2003 through School of the Environment.
Before coming to ESRI-USC, Dr. De was a Research Fellow and Junior
Scientist at the Center for Study of Man and
Environment, Calcutta, India where he worked
(3 years) in groundwater quality monitoring,
genesis of contaminants, heavy mineral
identification in the sediments and
performed EIA – EMP of several mines and
industrial sites.
Prior to this, he was Junior and then
Senior Research Fellow in the Dept. of
Geology, University of Calcutta where he
worked (4 years) on geoenvironmental impact
identification due to open cast coal mining.
